There’s something comforting about taking a few familiar favourites away with you. Your favourite soap can be one of them, whether you’re heading off for a weekend by the coast, visiting family or taking a well-earned break.
With a little thought about how you pack it, a bar of soap can be an easy addition to your travel bag.
Take what you need
For a short trip, you might not need a whole bar. Cutting a small piece from your soap lets you leave the rest at home and gives you less to pack.
Choose a piece that’s comfortable to hold and enough for the time you’ll be away.
Let it dry between uses
When you arrive, give your soap somewhere to drain rather than leaving it sitting in water. A draining soap dish is handy, but the main thing is to find a spot where the bar can dry between washes.
Try not to close wet soap straight back into its travel container after every use.
Pack for the journey home
On departure day, give your soap as much drying time as you can before packing it away.
If it’s still damp, use a leak-resistant container for the journey, then unpack it when you get home. A closed travel tin is useful for transport, but it doesn’t need to become your soap’s permanent home.
Keep it simple
You don’t need to take your whole bathroom away with you. A few well-chosen favourites can be enough to make an unfamiliar space feel a little more like your own.
Sometimes, it’s the everyday things we enjoy most that deserve a place in the bag.
